Only I would have a stroke.

So…it’s been an eventful 28 hours! Here’s the whole story, sorry for those of you who got freaked out by my twitter/facebook updates!

I was at work on Wednesday totally normal, excited to go home and start the wedding festivities. I went to the bathroom and noticed I couldn’t get my right hand to do what my brain was telling it to, and it was SO weird. Then I went to wash my hands, dropped the paper towel, couldn’t press the airfreshener spray button down, and then noticed I was drooling. So once i figured out how to open the door I went out to my coworkers Matt and Greg to try to tell them what happened and I couldn’t put a coherent sentence together. So I went to my desk, pretty confused at what was going on and tried to iChat my friend Kristen and typed “I just storoke just stokre” I was trying to tell her I thought I just had a stroke, but my brain would not allow my fingers to type. So then my phone rang and the lady calling needed directions and I realized I couldn’t make a sentence, so I went to Matt’s office and gave the phone to him and tried to write him a note saying “I can’t put my words together.” At this point I was panicking, and thankfully I work with awesome people who told me to stay calm. After about 3 minutes I felt totally normal, but Greg thought it would be smart to call my doctor. We did so and looked up stroke symptoms and explained to my Dr that we think I just had a stroke to which they sent us to the ER.

At the hospital I talked to a neurologist who admited me for the night, had an MRI, chest x-ray, chest echo, and an EET. All of these tests showed that I actually had a mini-stroke and my doctor thinks that my birth control was the cause as it can cause clots in your blood, which goes to your lungs and then stops the oxygen to the heart. So I am taking an aspirin a day, taking it easy, getting married, and then going back to the doctor when I get home. Not how I expected my wedding week to be…that’s for dang sure!!

Crazy story Leah! We heard details from Sheila today and couldn’t believe it! I’m just glad they were able to diagnose and get to the root of the problem. I guess that answers the age old question of the newlywed…what birth control is right for me? NONE! :) Love you girl. We’ll keep praying for ya. Enjoy every moment of the days to come. They go by way too fast. Can’t wait to hear all about it.
