sooo…what exactly do you do?
I get this question quite frequently. For some reason people seem to think I either (a) don’t have a job; (b) have 20 jobs; (c) make things up. So, here we go!
What do I do?
Well, that’s a loaded question.
I actually do have several things going on, and I am going to try to explain. I do work from home which is…amazing. I love waking up, walking from my bedroom right to my office (should I choose) and working. Believe it or not, people who work from home actually DO work and make money! I get asked to do things in the middle of the day quite often (babysit, go to long lunches, shop, come to mid-day parties) and my response is always “I have to work.” and the response back? “But you work from home!” Well, valid point, but just because I work from home doesn’t mean I don’t work or keep work hours.
My ideal day is to wake up around 7:00 (this hardly EVER happens…), workout, do my Bible study, shower, get dressed/eat breakfast and start work by 9, then I usually hunker down and work til 5 or 6 pm. Yeah, some days I wake up at 8:55 and walk to my desk by 9, but in a perfect world, that would be my schedule. I usually don’t take a lunch break and just eat while I work. Sometimes I will get in a mid-day workout, run to the grocery, clean the house…whatever, but, for the most part I work 9-5 without a break…and a lot on the weekends too! In my opinion, one of the biggest challenges of working from home is setting a stopping point and sticking to it. Especially hard when (like our place) your office is just in the middle of your main living space…how do you turn off that part of your brain?!
Now, on to what I actually DO from home.
(1) I am part of an amazing wedding photography collaborative called (once like a spark) photography. I work with a killer team of girls (well, women) and we love to give people amazing wedding photos. I manage 3 of our markets at the moment and do all of the sales, admin, logistics, planning, etc for all of the weddings in my markets up until the wedding day when the photographer steps in. I LOVE my job. I love our clients, my coworkers and my daily tasks…and I am BLESSED.
(2) One of the founders of (olas) and I had an opportunity literally tap us on the shoulder and from that started a social media/marketing/branding agency called re:VOLT consulting. We help companies figure out what they need to be doing in lots of different ways! It has been a fun and wild ride, and we are loving it…and learning A LOT!! Our website does need some text…gotta get on that. (we ARE looking for an intern…ahem….)
(3) Beachbody. About a year and a half ago my body was totally changed by Beachbody products. I became a workout addict and decided to join their team of coaches. This is something I do totally on the side and for fun, but it has been a way to keep me accountable in my fitness AND bring in a nice chunk of extra spending money. I have really enjoyed being part of this company and don’t really see myself leaving that anytime soon!
(4) Turbo Kick! I teach a group fitness class called Turbo Kick 1-2 days a week and LOVE IT! If you are local, come check out my class! If not, check at your local gym to see if this is offered – it’s SO FUN!
So, in a tiny nutshell, that is what I do. I essentially have 4 “jobs” but I LOVE all of them and am literally in my sweet spot. If you asked me last summer where I would be today, I would have said “I have no idea, leave me alone.” Now, thinking about where I will be next year THRILLS me!!!
So…what exactly do YOU do??
