a dental failure.
yep, you read that title right – I am now a dental failure. You see, I am a teeth brushing fanatic. I love brushing my teeth, people who brush their teeth less than twice a day (or really 3 times) really gross me out…no offense if that is you, but…I am grossed out by you, just let it be known.
I have always faithfully gone to the dentist every 6 months for a cleaning and proudly come out each time with my straight, shining, cavity-less teeth being told my the dentist how amazing my teeth are and that I should “keep up the good work” because my “teeth really love it”….until today.
Today, friends, I have some bad news. I am no longer a gold-star, straight A student (this is really the only area of my life that I have ever been able to say that). As this dentist was doing my exam and measurements should yell out a number rating and then on some teeth she would say “calculus.” After many times of saying this I said “I have a feeling calculus is not a good thing,” to which she replied: “oh no it is not, we will get to that later.” At this point…I became frightened. Readers…I warn you of this calculus…I am ashamed to say I have this.
Yes, faithful readers…I have been diagnosed with….GINGIVITIS. Once she broke the news I said “can you tell I am very concerned about this?” And she replied, “you really should be.” Ummmm….thanks doc, way to comfort. I leave the dentist with my (still cavity-less) head hung in shame ready to tuck down in bed to recover from this awful diagnosis and call my BFF to tell her the bad news. Her response? “Everyone has gingivitis!” Oh, well…thanks for taking the drama away, Lo.
Moral of the story: don’t skip your cleanings.
Healing of calculus causing gingivitis…1 – 2 cleanings…phew.
Here’s to your dental health,
Gingi
