peppermint bark…really?

So, I made peppermint bark for my first time last year and it turned out DELISH! I loved it! Perfect combo of chocolate and mint…a nice little sweet, festive treat. After my HUGE win making this last year I decided I was going to spread the holiday cheer with my neighbors and make peppermint bark for everyone…what joy they would find in my minty, chocolatey treat…man, I would love to have myself as a neighbor.

So last week I started the prep and it looked…amazing. Chocolately…pepperminty…delish. Much like the photo below:

So, I take it out of the fridge, steal a few bites for myself and begin breaking it up and boxing it up into my festive packaging. I was so excited! I put them away in the panty until I could get them made for everyone and I pulled them out this morning and what do I discover? A DISASTER. They were all covered in this white, crystall-y looking fuzz and really just all around creepy looking. I took a little taste (smart, right?) and it tasted fine (not good, just fine) but I wasn’t about to give fuzzy, white bark to my neighbors. (Looking back, I should have taken a picture if I was really trying to be serious about my blogging…)

So, dear neighbors, no peppermint bark for you…unless you want to go fish it out of the dumpster.

Any tips? Chris (who is a fantastic cook) tried to tell me what he thought went wrong…but…I don’t take cooking advice from him very well without getting annoyed. :)

I would say the mistake was to take it from the fridge and then store it in the pantry. Maybe store in the freezer? That is where I keep all my Christmas goodies, including the “candy” type ones and they seem to be fine the whole season! What was Chris’ theory?
